Description
Aerial view of the naturally pink Hutt Lagoon near Port Gregory in Western Australia. The pink colour is caused mainly by microscopic algae (Dunaliella salina), which thrive in the supersaline water. The algae are farmed in ponds; they are harvested for their pigments (beta-carotene), which are used as food additives and natural colours.
